The Saudi Foreign Ministry announces the return of relations with Canada to its “previous status” after years of disagreement

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Wednesday, the return of diplomatic relations with Canada to its “previous status”, turning the page on a dispute dating back to 2018 that included the expulsion of the ambassador and the freezing of commercial dealings, after accusing Ottawa of interfering in the affairs of the Kingdom.

The ministry said in a statement that in light of “the desire of both sides to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and common interests, it was decided to restore the level of diplomatic relations with Canada to its previous status.”
