One of the biggest game releases of 2021 – Hogwarts Legacy – has been delayed by a year. The game, which will likely have a PC version alongside the regular versions for consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation, is now set to release in 2022, although the developers haven’t set a timeline for it.
Avalanche Software and Portkey Games, the developers of Hogwarts Legacy, said they would need more time to create the “best possible experience” of the game, set in the school of that name in the 1800s, which incidentally has the time period separates its most popular resident – Harry Potter – by about a century.

“We would like to thank fans around the world for the great response to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label,” the creators of Hogwarts Legacy said in a prepared statement on Twitter. “Creating the best possible experience for all Wizarding World and game fans is of the utmost importance to us, so we give the game the time it needs. Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022. “
The game was first revealed last year at the PlayStation 5 event by the Portkey Games, the publisher label behind the Harry Potter video game and owned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Avalanche Software is the team behind Disney Infinity.
Rumors of a Harry Potter RPG (originally expected to be called Harry Potter: Magic Awakened) first surfaced in 2018, when Redditor Vape This Bro leaked footage of the game in which he claimed to have seen it as part of a market investigation. While the footage was quickly removed by Warner Bros, it was long enough for fans to identify Hogwarts, various creatures and a character creator (via Eurogamer).
