A heated argument has led to the supposed stabbed murder of a man in a quiet suburban street.

Reports of a domestic dispute led police to St Clair in western Sydney on Saturday night, where they discovered a 34-year-old man with stab wounds.

The alleged attacker, a 31-year-old man, fled the scene but police tracked him to a home just a few streets away from the attack.

The victim was treated by paramedics but died on the scene.

Residents on the scene are surprised that such a tragedy occurred in their quiet neighborhood, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The argument allegedly took place in the front yard of the victim's house, with concerned neighbors calling the police.

A woman was leaving her elderly mother in her house on the same street where the attack occurred, saying: "I grew up on this street, nothing bad happened here."

The forensic police arrived on the scene shortly after the attack, and the residents returned to their homes.

"The police told me to look at the ground and not at the scene," said the woman who released her mother.

"I could see crime scene markers all over the street."

The alleged attacker was taken to the Penrith police station and charged with murder Saturday night.

He is scheduled to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

The 31-year-old fled the murder scene, but was soon located by New South Wales police at a nearby residence.
