The publisher of the Georgia newspaper reveals he and his daughter, 18, were tricked into being part of Borat 2
A Georgia newspaper publisher has revealed how he and his daughter thought they were starring in a new movie about cotillion, only to be tricked into being part of Borat 2.
Will Davis, the publisher of the Monroe County Reporter, said he was approached in February to be part of a movie scene about an Eastern European girl attending her first cotillion.
Davis’ two teenage children took cotillion classes where they learned etiquette and how to waltz and fox trot, and friends asked them to participate in the movie scene.
Davis and his 18-year-old daughter Abby thought it seemed like a good idea because all they had to do was dress up, dance, enjoy free food, and were paid $ 50 each.
When big movie day finally arrived, they were shocked to see a father and daughter duo from Eastern Europe perform ‘wildly’, the crowd flashed and the guests accosted, before realizing they were being ripped off.
Monroe County Reporter publisher Will Davis revealed that he and his 18-year-old daughter were duped into being filmed in Borat 2. They were asked to dress up and dance in a scene about a cotillion, only to be humiliated by Sacha Baron Cohen and poured the Borat 2
Leading up to the film, the film company asked Davis and his daughter to take a short online quiz that tested their knowledge of pop culture and asked if they were familiar with figures like Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen and Mike Huckabee. Davis said he could only identify Huckabee.
Then came the personal interview with several film studio representatives who asked them about their jobs and families and asked them to sign a waiver.
On movie day, the father-daughter duo took off for the Hay House in Macon.
“ On the big night I sucked my stomach in, put on my tuxedo and we left, ” Davis wrote in a piece for the Monroe County Reporter, that he owns.
Davis said they were asked to turn on their cell phones, which gave them “cold sweats,” and he saw a lot of armed guards around the building.
Borat 2 follows Kazakhstan’s character Borat Sagdiyev’s journey to the US, where he presents his daughter at a cotillion ceremony in the south
Davis said he believed the film’s storyline was about an Eastern European girl who tried to make her debut in Southern society during the Cotillion ceremony. Sacha Baron Cohen and Irina Nowak pictured above in the trailer for the movie entering the cotillion
The father was tall, had a long nose, and fooled around wildly all night in a long coat. He attacked me while we waited in the presentation line and yanked out a Georgian-English dictionary and pointed to words that were wildly trying to tell me something, ”Davis said.
The father-daughter duos were split into two teams, A and B.
Davis said he was on Team B and asked to wait while Team A filmed in the ballroom and greeted special guests, including two girls and their father from the Eastern European country of Georgia.
Word spread around the Hay House that is the storyline [of the movie] was that a young girl from the country of Georgia dreamed of making her debut in the American South. She and her father had arrived and were to be filmed interacting with local fathers and daughters, ”Davis said.
Davis said he sensed something strange when he tried to step outside the room and was stopped by an armed guard.
‘What do you need?!’ asked the guard.
Davis replied “Uhhh, I just got some fresh air” and started feeling eerily like “a hostage.”
Eventually, Team B was called to the ballroom for the cameras where Davis and the rest of the dancers were finally able to meet the foreign guests.
Cotillion attendees were shocked to see the ‘wild’ behavior of the special guests as they hopped around
To close the evening, the producers announced that the Georgian guests wanted to perform an Eastern European folk dance. ‘Suddenly the’ daughter ‘lifted her crinoline, spinning and showing no underwear,’ Davis said
Guests were shocked when the actors performed their dance and the “daughter” lifted her skirt
“The father was tall, had a long nose, and fooled around wildly all night in a long coat,” Davis wrote.
“He attacked me while we waited in the presentation line and pulled out a Georgian-English dictionary and pointed to words that were wildly trying to tell me something,” Davis said.
He noted that the strange man continued to act bizarrely with other fathers and daughters while the cameras rolled.
“There were reports that he was trying to ask some fathers a” price “for their daughters,” Davis said.
To end the evening, the producers announced that the Georgian guests wanted to perform an Eastern European folk dance and start dancing side by side in sync before the daughter shocked the dance floor.
Suddenly the ‘daughter’ lifted her crinoline, twirling and showing no underwear, ‘Davis recalled.
Shocked audience marched to the till and demanded that their phones go away.
“My dear daughter and I walked into the cool Macon night with mouths open, wondering what had just happened,” Davis said.
“Of course, after staging the charade, our cotillion friends were humiliated and apologetic,” said Davis (pictured with one of his daughters). He said, while not upset that he was being fooled into being part of the movie, ‘I’ll laugh a lot harder when we get the last laugh on November 3rd’
Later that night, a friend called Davis and said that the crazy Georgian dude at the prom was actually comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, the actor behind the movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
The friend found that everyone on Team B in the online quiz was asked if they couldn’t identify Cohen.
“Cohen’s modus operandi seems to embarrass and shock southern conservative audiences on film,” Davis wrote.
“Of course, after paying homage to the charade, our cotillion friends were humiliated and apologetic,” Davis added.

In September, Davis learned that Borat 2 was reportedly done filming and that it would be a mockumentary in which Baron Cohen went to interview incognito and shocked unsuspecting Americans.
Davis was then offended to see the Borat 2 trailer released earlier this month and that he and his friends were being cheated on camera.
“The trailer was released and there we were clapping like trained seals for Cohen and his” daughter, “Davis said.
‘I have no problem with Borat laughing at our costs. I think some of his stuff is quite funny, ”Davis said.
“I will laugh a lot louder when we last laugh on November 3,” he added.
