Kate Langbroek has broken her silence on her awkward joke which fell completely on deaf ears among the audience at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards.

The Project star, 59, took to the stage at Sunday’s ceremony alongside friend Dave Lawson to present an award, but failed to impress during her hosting gig.

She made a joke on stage that failed to please the celebrity audience and left them scratching their heads, prompting her to now defend her bizarre prank.

As she walked out on stage, Kate said: ‘Hey everyone and Dave Lawson, I didn’t think you’d agree to do this because I didn’t think you liked strong women.’

However, the prank only sparked a few laughs from the audience, while others could be heard muttering in disapproval as he fell completely to the ground.

Dave, 45, also seemed confused by the comment as he awkwardly broke the silence by saying: “Mate, I’m really happy here, Kate… thanks for that.”

Speaking at The Buck Up podcastKate has now explained the joke, reaffirming her stance by stating that it was “a good joke” despite its lukewarm reception that night.

She said the comment about “strong women” was a reference to the fact that Dave is married to Sarah Snook, who plays the famously headstrong Shiv Roy on the hit series Succession.

Going on stage that night with Dave Lawson, he remarked to him, “I didn’t think you’d agree to do this because I didn’t think you liked strong women,” but received some laughs.

“I just assumed that since everyone in the room was in show business, people would be aware of show business and who his wife is,” he explained.

“It was a funny joke because he’s actually married to Shiv Roy. It’s a good joke, but it’s actually a terrible joke because about three people got it.”

Sarah, who rose to fame alongside Dave on Triple R radio, went on to talk about the embarrassing silence of the night and admitted she could hear the confusion in the crowd.

“You know what I literally heard, I literally heard from the room ‘huh?’ and I was like ‘oh, they don’t know what I think they know,'” he said while defending his joke.

Her podcast co-host Nath Valvo admitted she didn’t get the joke until much later, but insisted it still made her laugh that night.

The couple laughed about the now-famous incident as Kate seemed to see the funny side of her awkward hosting gaffe.

Meanwhile, Kate is preparing to put her charming Melbourne cottage on the market next month.

Located in St. Kilda, 7km from the CBD, the five-bedroom, two-bathroom vintage home has been put up for auction with a guide price of $2.5 million to $2.7 million.

The comedian has lived on the property with her four children and husband Peter Lewis for 16 years.

They are now preparing to move to a larger home just a few blocks away, according to the Herald of the Sun.

Built in the 1850s, the property is a magnificent combination of Old World charm and sleek modern design.

Since moving in, Kate and her partner have made significant improvements to the property, including installing an extension.

Known as Fenagh Cottage, the property still maintains its classic facade and features a sunken ‘family room’ with gas fireplace that opens onto an entertaining terrace.

The spacious and modern kitchen features a breakfast bar as well as a set of pendant lights that offer a touch of retro 70s style.

Other highlights include a spacious master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and dressing room, as well as a sculpted garden and built-in trampoline.
