The Princess of Wales added an unusual splash of color to her fingertips as she attended Easter Matins in Windsor today.
The mother-of-three’s nails were painted a deep red — a far cry from the neutral or clear hues she usually wears to public appearances with the royal family.
It is widely believed that there were rules about colored nails in the late Queen’s reign, which ended last September, with colored nail polish colors being preferred.
said William Hanson, a royal etiquette expert the sun that “light red and light pink, for example, are not correct, especially on formal occasions and especially during mourning.”
He said permitted colors include “transparent or dark pink”.

Kate was spotted sporting brightly colored nails while attending Easter service with the royal family at St George’s Chapel this morning.
She was joined by Prince William and the couple’s three children, as four-year-old Prince Louis attended the traditional service for the first time.
The whole family was dressed in blue, with Kate recreating a long Katherine Walker coat with a custom £825 pillbox hat, matching clutch and nude pointy heels.
Her red nails added a fresh pop of color to her spring ensemble, and royal watchers were hugely impressed with her decision.
One Twitter user said: ‘Royals in blue at Easter services today in Windsor. And more color than usual on Kate’s nails.
Another added: ‘Do you see what I see? Look at the princess nails…surprise.
A third said, “Loving Katherine with dark nail polish.”
Kate has previously been seen with painted toe nails in open-toe shoes, but colored toenails are a rare occurrence for members of the royal family.

It comes after reports indicated that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will take part in the King’s coronation procession at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
The King and Queen – dressed in royal blue – led the party at Windsor. Behind them were his brother and sister-in-law, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne.
Next up were the new Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and their eldest son James, now Earl of Wessex. Their daughter, student Lady Louise, was absent.
Also in attendance was Princess Anne’s husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, who was walking with Queen Elizabeth’s niece Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband, Daniel.
They were followed by the heavily pregnant Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, who are expecting their second child together.
The day will undoubtedly be a bittersweet moment for the royal family, as they celebrate another family holiday without the Queen.
Sunday also marks the second anniversary of the death of the king’s late husband, Prince Philip. He died at Windsor Castle on the 9th of April 2021.
