John David Duggar has revealed that his wife Abbie suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum during her first pregnancy, and the nausea-inducing disorder sent her to the hospital several times.
The Counting On star, 29, and his wife, 27, revealed earlier this year that they are expecting a little girl, and although they are clearly excited, it was a difficult path for Abbie, a former nurse.
& # 39; It hit her hard and she was probably stuck for seven weeks with severe morning sickness, & # 39; John David said Weekly. & # 39; She was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum and was admitted to the hospital a few times. & # 39;
Feeling sick: John David Duggar has revealed that his wife Abbie suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum during her first pregnancy
Start swinging! The nausea-causing disorder has sent her to the hospital several times
Hyperemesis gravidarum is a complication in which pregnant women experience severe nausea and vomiting, which often leads to dehydration.
Other celebrities, including the Duchess of Cambridge, Kelly Clarkson and Amy Schumer, have also experienced it.
& # 39; We have visited the ER several times for dehydration, & # 39; John David explained. & # 39; She couldn't eat, just about not, or something to drink. So she was actually on IV & # 39; s and had IV & # 39; s at home. So that was a pretty scary time. & # 39;
For the time being, John David – who is the second oldest male brother or sister in the family after sex brother Josh – said he was taking very good care of his wife.
& # 39; I keep her water full and her snacks for her. I keep her eating and just comfortable. Everything I can get for her, I try. I run to the store, (get) what she needs, just keep her as comfortable as possible when she feels bad. & # 39;
Abbie said that he even went to the supermarket with a heat suit around midnight and also cooked and cleaned – something many of his brothers and his sisters' husband are not familiar with.
Everyone gets a bump: the new season of Counting On includes Abbie's announcement, including a photo shoot with all Duggar girls who were pregnant at the time

What is Hyperemesis Gravidarum and how can it be treated?
Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) is a pregnancy condition where expectant mothers experience severe nausea, weight loss, vomiting and dehydration.
Mild cases of HG can be treated with a change in diet, rest and antacids. But more serious cases can force the expectant mother to stay in the hospital so that they can get the nutrition they need.
Approximately 70 to 80 percent of women will experience some form of morning sickness during their pregnancy.
But the number of women suffering from HG is not well known because the majority are often not reported because they treat it at home or in out-patient care.
The cause of HG remains unknown, but the serious nausea is believed to be due to the rise in hormone levels in the woman's body as it changes to accommodate the growing fetus.
HG symptoms usually start during the first trimester at the point of four to six weeks and peak when the woman lasts nine to twelve weeks.
Although most women experience relief after 14 weeks when they enter their second trimester, some will experience severe nausea during pregnancy.

& # 39; He has just been an angel, & # 39; said Abbie, longing for okra.
Abbie also felt when she first heard she was pregnant, and had gone to emergency care when the doctor brought the news.
& # 39; We went to the emergency room because I felt a bit under the weather & # 39 ;, Abbie said in a video announcement. & # 39; And then she said, "Oh, and by the way, we always do a pregnancy test and yours came back positive."
& # 39; And I had something like & # 39; What ?! & # 39; said Abbie, apparently in shock. & # 39; I think I'm going to cry! Out of excitement and shock. & # 39;
& # 39; It wasn't the way she had intended to find out, & # 39; said John David. & # 39; But we are so happy. & # 39;
However, the pregnancy has not all been a disease: the couple has already chosen a name, and Abbie said they really enjoyed feeling our little girl kick, move and respond when we talk to her.
That the couple had already visited the hospital during this pregnancy – and that Abbie was a nurse before she got married – suggests that they can distinguish themselves from some of the other Duggar couples and be born in the hospital rather than at home.
Bring it on! John David and Abbie announced in August that they are expecting a girl
To keep it simple: they shared their news with family by setting up pink confetti
Feeling better: Abbie entered her second trimester and said she was quite ill during her first
In August, the couple held a gender unveiling party at the Duggar site, inviting almost the entire family to discover the gender of their baby.
They later shared the happy news with fans and talked about pink and bows for their future child.
& # 39; We are so excited to announce that we have a baby, & # 39; said the couple in a joint TLC video.
& # 39; We knew the gender of the baby but our family didn't. No one else except Jana knew it, & said John David, showing pictures of their large sex on the lawn of his parents' house.
The couple surprised everyone by letting pink streamers and confetti leave.
& # 39; I am so excited about hair bows and pink dresses and lots of sparkle, & # 39; Abbie said.
& # 39; I'm really looking forward to having a little baby girl in the house. I already have one, so now I have two, & John 39 added, referring to his wife. & # 39; I just hope she's as beautiful as her mom. I know she will be.

Abbie further said that the first trimester of her pregnancy & # 39; pretty rough & # 39; but now that I'm in the second trimester, I feel like a human again. It is going great. & # 39;
The couple said that they have not yet furnished a children's room and probably a cradle in the guest room of their & # 39; rather small house & # 39; will put, but they can add a few photos & pink sheets.
The two lovebirds seemed to have taken most of their family to the home of Jim Bob and Michelle for the grand unveiling, including John David's twin sister Jana, who still lives there.
Jana wished the couple on Instagram and shared two photos of the party.
& # 39; Congratulations John & Abbie !! & # 39; she wrote. & # 39; I could not have asked for better twins to go through life with than John, and their little girl is so blessed that she has had such a great guy for her father !!
& # 39; And when I see what a tender caregiver has been for her family and in her work as a nurse, I know she's going to be a great mother !! I love you so much !! & # 39;

& # 39; It's really great to think about being a parent and raising our own child. & # 39;
Announcement: They also talked about the news in a new video for TLC

No rush here! The couple made the decision in November but only today announced that Abbie is pregnant
Several brothers and sisters of John David had honeymoon babies & expected within the first few months that they said: & I do & # 39 ;.
John David was old for a groom according to Duggar standards and married after several of his younger brothers.
Joseph, 24, was already married to his wife Kendra and the two are already expecting their second child.
Josiah, 22, was already married to his wife Lauren, and the two are expecting again after a miscarriage.
John David & # 39; s younger sisters Joy Anna, 21, Jinger, 25, Jessa, 26 and Jill, 28, are also married to children, just like his older brother Josh, 31.
His twin sister Jana is the only adult child of 20 years and older who has not yet been coupled.
John David had joked about the fact that he was & # 39; single until the recording & # 39; until registered nurse Abbie came by, and then the two things made quick: John suggested in a plane hangar within weeks and they were married four months after they started making love.
They do! The couple married after a four-month relationship on November 3
Structure: the two shared a very intimate first kiss on the altar after being outspoken men and women
Not yet! John's fist kissed each of Abbie's hands, surprised her and made the audience laugh
The long teasing: he leaned forward and kissed each of her shoulders while she held her hands
Well, this is getting a bit … private! Commentators on Reddit have compared the pillow to the foreplay
Their wedding was broadcast on TLC, putting their first kiss as husband and wife in the spotlight – in fact, their first kiss ever, due to their strict court rules.
But when the preacher pronounced their husband and wife and John told him to kiss the bride, the scene became much more intense than that of the chaste, clumsy pillow of John David's brothers and sisters.
Abbie, waiting for her husband to take the lead, stepped back and looked John in the eyes as he removed his surprise. With both hands in his, he first lifted her left hand, then her right, and kissed them each – to the noisy laughter of the crowd.
The crowd kept smiling while John still avoided her lips, instead kissing her left shoulder and then her right shoulder.
Abbie giggled and told him: & # 39; You're so stupid. & # 39;
He then put his hands on both sides of her face and Abbie leaned forward – clearly thinking that this was it.
But John fooled her, and the spectators leaned forward again to kiss her forehead, then her left cheek, and then her right, while everyone kept smiling together.
Finally he looked into her eyes and leaned toward her, kissed her lips, and pulled the moment for at least eight seconds.
Not yet! Abbie thought John would finally kiss her when he kissed her head
Wait … He held her face as he kissed her cheeks
Simply hilarious! John's mother and father, Jim Bob and Michelle, laughed in the audience
Great moment: the couple had never kissed before their wedding day due to strict religious rules
There you go! Eventually they closed the deal with a kiss on their lips
