The first game of the NFL regular season in South America will see the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo.

As first reported by ESPN, the Eagles and Packers will meet on Friday, September 6, the day after the start of the 2024 season.

The NFL’s expansion to Brazil was announced in December, and the historic showdown will take place at Corinthians Arena, home of the Brazilian soccer team Corinthians.

There are said to be more than 35 million soccer fans in the South American country, and the league believes this match represents “a historic moment for our sport internationally.”

It means the NFL will have hosted a game on five of seven continents.

“We are excited to play in front of our devoted fans in Brazil and help build the international popularity of the NFL and the Packers,” said Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy.

“We had a great experience playing internationally for the first time a couple of years ago and are proud to be part of the league’s continued global growth.”

The game, which will stream exclusively on Peacock, is one of five regular-season games taking place overseas next season.

The 2024 NFL International Games will also see teams travel to London and Munich. The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings are scheduled to play separate games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the Jacksonville Jaguars will travel for a “home” game at Wembley.

The Carolina Panthers have already been announced as one of the teams for a regular season game at Allianz Arena, the home of Bayern Munich. The opponents for the remaining four matches have not been announced.
