A Parisian socialite linked to everyone from Nicolas Sarkozy’s ex-wife Carla Bruni to the late Karl Lagerfeld has revealed the chic, carefree lifestyle of French women.
In an interview with The timesMathilde Favier, 54, said it was a “big lie” to suggest the quintessential European glamour many seek wasn’t hard work.
“It’s never easy,” he said. “Some people are so charming that they make it look easy.”
‘But if someone who is very thin tells you, “Oh, that’s funny, I actually eat a lot,” it’s never true.
‘They are always very careful, they eat what they should. Life is an effort. When one makes an effort, life is more beautiful and special.’

Mathilde, Dior Couture’s PR director, has a new book out titled Beautifully in Paris, dedicated to the city’s most famous VIPs.
Speaking to the outlet, she also reflected on the openness with which we approach conversations about beauty, admitting that “people don’t pretend they don’t do (touch-ups) anymore.”
However, she says Parisian women still “want it to look real.”
It-Girl Mathilde, who was friends with Sofia Coppola and even starred in her 2006 film Marie Antoinette, also revealed that for her being stylish is about making deliberate choices to choose things that are refined and unique.
She stressed that she would “never put a plastic bottle on the table” and still makes sure to create a nice dining area even if she’s just having a simple meal.
Mathilde says it’s in her DNA and remembers her mother always taking extra steps to make things better – from taking the butter out of the wrapper to removing the price tags from everything.
He added that refinement “has nothing to do with money” and is in fact a combination of “freshness” and “some taste.”
