Former President Barack Obama’s White House was peppered with questions about Hunter Biden as he joined the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma and followed up on coverage of his firing from the Navy Reserve for cocaine use.
On Wednesday, Politico’s Playbook reported on recently released emails about President Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president, which were released by the National Archives as part of a lawsuit brought by American First Legal, a group founded by far-right immigration adviser of Trump, Stephen Miller. .
In a high-profile exchange, a Russian television producer named Natalya Usenko who worked for the NTV network praises Hunter Biden’s work with Burisma in an email to the vice president’s office and later requests an interview with Joe.
‘Mister. Hunter Biden has recently become a member of the Board of Directors of the Burisma company. We want to congratulate you and wish you good luck!’ she wrote. ‘Would you be so kind as to help us arrange an interview with Mr. Joseph Biden so he can tell us about his attitude and whether he will influence US foreign policy?’
Shailah Murray, then Biden’s communications director, remarked to her colleagues: ‘What a lovely letter!’
Hunter Biden’s (left) decision in 2014 to join Burisma’s board prompted a series of inquiries to the office of then-Vice President Joe Biden (left), with his spokesman telling a reporter off the record that the office was never consulted from the White House counsel.
The Politico Playbook reported Wednesday on emails released by the National Archives showing President Barack Obama’s White House was aware of reports of Hunter Biden (pictured) being ousted from the Naval Reserve due to to cocaine use.
The requested interview was never granted.
The emails show that Vice President Biden’s office was surprised by Hunter Biden’s 2014 decision to join Burisma’s board.
What a lovely letter! Biden’s then-director of communications, Shailah Murray, commented when a Russian television producer reached out to congratulate Hunter’s deal with Burisma and to request an interview with Joe.
The then-spokeswoman for the now-president, Kendra Barkoff, told ABC’s Ann Compton off the record that “lawyers were not consulted because Hunter is a private citizen and the vice president has no association with this company.”
Compton had lobbied the vice president’s office about whether the White House counsel’s office had been consulted before Hunter signed.
‘OFF the record doesn’t help. However, I would be willing to use this with or without citing YOU,” Compton responded to Barkoff.
The Files published entire email conversations involving Hunter Biden, including those with “off the record” deals between White House staff and reporters, Politico noted.
Barkoff also spoke to Hunter Biden at one point about the spate of inquiries directed at the White House, the State Department and the US Embassy in Ukraine.
What exactly are they asking? Hunter wrote to Barkoff. ‘For now, I would just refer them to my office. FYI, I joined the board of directors of Burisma Holdings Ltd….a private/independent natural gas producer in Ukraine along with the former president of Poland. I believe the press release is on their website.
Hunter Biden’s Burisma trade deal opened his father to a host of political attacks and was the basis for the first impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, in which Trump withheld $400 million in funds approved by Congress for the defense of Ukraine, while pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to open an investigation. in Joe and Hunter.
Now that Republicans control the House, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is hell-bent on investigating what he calls ‘Biden family influence peddling’, focusing on Hunter Biden’s trade deals in Ukraine and China.
