The footage, released this week by the department, shows when Police Sgt. Kurwin Klien fatally shot 44-year-old Ubaldo Gomez when he raised a kitchen knife in a fight with a man who intervened in the fatal shooting in an apartment in Harlem on May 20.
Gomez’s wife had called around 6:45 pm after allegedly shooting her sister in the fifth-floor apartment on St. Nicholas Terrace and 127th Street.

The woman fled the apartment to get help, while an unidentified man who intervened with Gomez struggled to the ground and was stabbed several times, Sgt. Carlos Nieves said in a released video of the bodycam footage posted on YouTube.
Klien, who arrived on site dressed in plain clothes, has been heard telling a partner, “cameras on,” several times as they approached the apartment’s open door.
Then the officer is heard several times: “Show me your hands.”
The footage later showed him cautiously entering the apartment while the voices of men are heard inside.
Gomez is then seen on the floor with the man lying on his back and raising a bloodied arm.
Screaming begins when the battle starts again and Gomez is seen grabbing the knife and moving to strike.
The footage then shows Klien doing two laps in Gomez, after more than a minute of warnings to Gomez. The murder suspect drops the knife and then lies flat on the floor motionless.
Police recorded images of an 8-inch kitchen knife used in combat, as well as a 9mm gun they claim was used by Gomez to fatally shoot his sister-in-law.
