The NRL was reportedly forced to keep Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos stars separate after they were booked on the same flight from Las Vegas.

Hostilities between both groups of players have escalated after Spencer Leniu was accused of racially abusing Broncos star Ezra Mam during the Roosters’ win at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

Roosters prop Leniu is accused of calling mum “a monkey” during the second half of the game.

According to News Corp, tensions rose at the team hotel just hours after the game, with the two clubs staying on the same floor of the Hilton Hotel.

The Roosters forward met up with Mam and teammates Pat Carrigan and Kotoni Staggs, and launched into a rant at Mam for the accusation she made.

The two teams were booked on the same flight to San Francisco after the game in Las Vegas.

Carrigan stepped between the pair and a Roosters official removed Leniu from the confrontation, the publication reported.

The Sydney Morning Herald revealed that both teams confirmed there was an altercation, but insisted it was verbal in nature.

To make matters worse, both teams had been booked on United Airlines Flight 2142 to San Francisco before taking separate flights to Sydney and Brisbane, News Corp reports.

The NRL sought to ensure the two teams were well separated when seating allocations were decided for the flight, which lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The clubs left their hotel at Resorts World on different buses and at different times, with the Broncos leaving an hour before the Roosters.

After the match, Leniu offered a strange response when asked about the racial slur on the field.

‘I think it’s all fun and games when we’re on the field. That’s it,’ she said.

When asked further about whether he was worried about the possible consequences, Leniu replied: “I’m not worried at all.”

South Sydney half-Indigenous Cody Walker called out Leniu on social media and shared the image of that interview with the caption: “Fun and games they consider gammin.”

Gammin or gammon is an Aboriginal word meaning fake, cheap or broken.
