Mo Salah made history at Old Trafford when Manchester United and Liverpool drew 2-2 on Sunday.

The hosts had their moments early on, but Jurgen Klopp’s side regained control soon after and were rewarded for their momentum when Luis Diaz fired in from a corner to give his team the lead.

United failed to register a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes but strengthened after the restart when Bruno Fernandes took advantage of a mistake to score from 50 yards.

After finding their way back into the game, United took the lead with a superb goal from Kobbie Mainoo before Mo Salah leveled the game again from twelve yards out.

Mail Sport’s Chris Wheeler was at Old Trafford to bring you four things you may have missed.

SIR JIM WATCHES AT OLD TRAFFORD

Three days after witnessing Manchester United’s shock capitulation to Chelsea, new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had recovered sufficiently to see Erik ten Hag’s team again at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe appeared in a smart green suit that luckily was a different shade to his Liverpool one. What the Ineos billionaire made of another crazy installment of United’s season is anyone’s guess.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe donned a green suit as he watched what turned out to be a breathless affair.

SALAH MAKES HISTORY FROM THE PLACE

Mo Salah’s late penalty meant he became the first player from an opposing team to score in four consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford.

The Egyptian’s sixth goal here also saw him overtake Anfield legend Steven Gerrard as the player with the most Premier League goals at the home of Liverpool’s great rival, and overtake Alan Shearer as the Premier League’s top scorer against United with 11 goals, and 14 in all competitions.

STAR-FILLED DIRECTORS BOX

This fixture will always be a big draw, and among the celebrities in the Old Trafford directors’ box were Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy, the founding members of so-called Irish supergroup Boyzlife after leaving Westlife and Boyzone, and darts sensation Luke Littler .

McFadden certainly enjoyed Kobbie Mainoo’s goal, but not as much as United academy director Nick Cox, who was absolutely delighted for the teenage graduate.

THE REDS DOMINATED THE SHOT COUNT

There are many reasons why Liverpool will be wondering how they didn’t win this match, but a shot count of 28-9 in their favor will probably be high on the list. They also outshot United 34-6 at Anfield in December, meaning Jurgen Klopp’s side have drawn both games against United this season despite taking 62 shots (a Premier League record against a single opponent). compared to United’s 17.

The score was 15-0 at half-time before Bruno Fernandes scored midway through United’s first half. The xG value of his goal was 0.01.
