The newest: Cejudo defends 125-pound belt with …

NEW YORK (AP) – The latest on the UFC map in New York with T.J. Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo fight for the 125-pound title (all times local):

12:35 pm

Henry Cejudo did his part to defend the UFC 125-pound title and perhaps the fate of the flyweight division with a punishing first round victory over bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw.

Champ vs. Champ was over in less than a minute.

Dillashaw, the 135-pound champion, had some serious weight in his attempt to hold championships in two weight classes. Cejudo was a moped and stopped the fight 32 seconds from the first lap for the fastest finish ever in a flyweight championship fight.

UFC president Dana White wrapped the new title belt around Cejudo's waistline. Cejudo may not receive another title defense. Cejudo defeated former champion Demetrious Johnson to win the belt and reign in a division that has attracted little interest from fans or serious contenders in the class.

Cejudo-Dillashaw was the main event on ESPN-plus on the first card of a five-year $ 1.5 billion contract on ESPN networks.

Cejudo said "this victory was for the flyweights" and offered to move up to 135 pounds to fight Dillashaw again – this time for the Dillashaw title.

Worried ex-NFL star Greg Hardy's UFC debut ended with a disqualification loss after he wiped out Allen Crowder with an illegal knee to stop the fight in the second round.

Hardy was properly booed from the moment he walked to the octagon in Barclays Center for his first fight for promotion. He retired a few punches in the first round and had responded to Crowder's torment in the second round with heavier blows.

But with Crowder on one knee, Hardy stabbed him with a knee and referee Dan Miragliotta immediately separated the heavyweights. Hardy seemed confused when the medical staff quickly entered the cage and checked for Crowder.

Hardy fell against the cage on the other side as the crowd broke out in booing and shouted recitations to disgraced former Carolina Panther and Dallas Cowboy.

Hardy left the NFL after being convicted of assault and threatening to kill a woman, with charges coming later because officials said they could not find the prosecutor and believed she had reached a settlement with the athlete.

In other fights on the main card, Glover Teixeira beat Karl Roberson in the first round, Joseph Benavidez defeated Dustin Ortiz by unanimous decision and Grego Gillespie had a second round TKO victory over Yancy Medeiros.

Paige VanZant won her first UFC fight in 2.5 years with a second entry victory over Rachael Ostovich in Barclays Center.

VanZant fought for the first time since she broke her right arm in January last year. She ensured that Ostovich tapped into an armbar in the second round for her first victory since August 27, 2016.

VanZant and Ronda Rousey are the only women who finish at least two UFC battles with arm bands.

Ostovich fought for the first time since he was admitted to hospital for injuries sustained in an alleged domestic assault. The Honolulu police arrested the husband of Ostovich, Arnold Berdon, who is accused of hitting his wife in the head, face and ribs, breaking her eye socket. Berdon has not pleaded guilty for attempted murder.

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone was able to win his desired match against Conor McGregor after he bled in a light attack and beat Alexander Hernandez. Cerrone expanded his record for career UFC victories with 22 and for finishes with 16.

Cerrone got a quick takedown in the first round and then used a hard knee in the face to break Hernandez open. The 35-year-old Cerrone ended him in the second for a roaring crowd in New York.

He called McGregor into the cage – and the UFC was great listening. McGregor tweeted: "For a fight like that Donald, I'll fight with you. Congratulations."

T.J. Dillashaw has dropped to the 125-pound weight class to fight flight champion Henry Cejudo in the main event of UFC & # 39; s debut card on the ESPN networks.

Dillashaw, the 135-pound champion, is trying to join Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier and Amanda Nunes as the only UFC fighters to keep titles in two weight classes at the same time.

Dillashaw can also ask UFC to leave the flyweight division with a win. Cejudo defeated former champion Demetrious Johnson to win the belt and reign in a division that has attracted little interest from fans or serious contenders in the class.

Cejudo-Dillashaw is the main event on ESPN-plus on the first card of a $ 1.5 billion five-year contract that UFC will plaster across the various platforms of the sports network.

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone fights Alexander Hernandez in a lightweight fight during the main event of a prelim card broadcast on ESPN.

The troubled ex-NFL star Greg Hardy makes his UFC debut in a heavyweight fight and a fight marred by controversy. Hardy left the NFL after being convicted of assault and threatening to kill a woman, with charges coming later because officials said they could not find the prosecutor and believed she had reached a settlement with the athlete.

Research on the climb of Hardy grew among fans when he was placed on the same card as flyweight Rachael Ostovich, who fights Paige VanZant. The Honolulu police arrested the husband of Ostovich, Arnold Berdon, who is accused of hitting his wife in the head, face and ribs, breaking her eye socket. Berdon has not pleaded guilty for attempted murder.
