A 64-year-old man died after he and his wife were taken hostage in their home on the Lower East Side by a man claiming to be a CIA agent, the authorities say.
Doru Vaduvescu, 64, was imprisoned together with his wife, Mimi, by their house guest Truman Delaney, 46, whom they met six months ago on a CIA-themed Facebook chat.
Allegedly, Delaney lived with the elderly couple for six months before accusing them of being spies and bluffing Vaduvescu, who was able to identify his murderer before he died of a heart attack at the hospital the next day.

According to police, Delaney sent private messages to the couple that they needed help & # 39; to complete his missions & # 39 ;.
But after four months, the suspect would have lost control and nailed the bedroom door shut, taken their credit cards, and knocked out the pin codes, the authorities say.
When Delaney went to the couch, Mimi called out the window for help.
The police responded to the house after a 911 call from an alarmed neighbor who said she believed someone was being held hostage.
Vaduvescu, who had broken ribs and a broken finger during the attack, was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he suffered cardiac arrest the next morning and died.
The police did not rule death with the official cause of death to be determined by the medical investigator, the police said.

Delaney is currently undergoing psychological evaluation at the Bellevue Medical Center after his arrest last Thursday.
Vaduvescu's neighbor Claire Rahri (62) said she had recently seen Mimi talk to a stranger in her Romanian mother.
The couple had lived in the building for more than 30 years, Rahri said.
Doru Vaduvescu retired a few years ago and Mimi was still working in a clothing factory, the neighbor said.
& # 39; They are very nice people, & # 39; said Rahri. & # 39; (Doru) used the bike every morning. Everywhere they go, they go together. To the park, shopping, always together.
& # 39; When it gets hot in the summer, they sit on the stairs. As long as I knew them, they are always together, & she said NYDailyNews.
