The Ultimate Ears Boom 2 is currently leading in our list of the best Bluetooth speakers available, and for good reason, but now we know that it gets a sequel along with its bigger brother, the Mega tree.

The Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 offer a fresh look at the familiar cylindrical aesthetics, with a new set of vibrant colors that match the playfulness of the previous iterations.

While Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 maintain the water resistance of their predecessors, they are now also officially dust-proof and push up the score from IPX7 to IP67.

This is partly due to the durability of the swanky new material that includes most units – "high performance fabric, designed for applications such as motorcycle jackets and fire equipment", according to Ultimate Ears.

This fabric also gives a neat iridescent sheen, changing hue with shifts in light or viewing angle thanks to the two-tone color design.

Magic and music

Ultimate Ears has added a Magic Button at the top of Boom 3 and Megaboom 3. It allows you to play, pause or skip your songs quickly, just as some in-line remote controls behave for headphones.

At the launch, there will also be support to press the button for a long time to bring out favorite playlists from Apple Music and Deezer, although there is currently no word as to whether this will be compatible with other streaming services down the line.

The same 360-degree sound projection returns with the pair, but this time, Ultimate Ears promises that the Megaboom 3 will come with a "deeper bass and enhanced clarity over the original Megaboom", which offers an overall warmer sound signature.

As far as the power supply is concerned, both devices are compatible with the Ultimate Ears Power Up charging station (available separately for $ 40 / £ 35 / AU $ 50) that was introduced next to the company Explosion and Megablast smart speakers.

Fortunately, moving the USB ports of the new speakers from the bottom to the side ensures that they can now be charged while standing upright.

Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 will be available in September and will be available for $ 149 / AU $ 199 and $ 199 / AU $ 299 respectively, while UK prices still need to be confirmed.
