Three best friends killed after being beaten and shot while fishing in Florida may have been victims of a targeted attack, police say.
Damion Tillman, 23; Keven Springfield, 30; and Brandon Rollins, 27, all died in the Friday night massacre. They were found by the father of one of the men who called for help just before his death.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said, “You don’t just trip someone out here.” He described the crime scene as ‘the worst I’ve ever seen’.
The three men were fishing in a popular lake in Frostproof, 70 miles south of Orlando in central Florida.
Three men were killed on Friday night by Lake Streety in Frostproof, Florida
Tillman first traveled to Lake Streety and arrived alone, according to Sheriff Judd.
When Rollins and Springfield arrived shortly after, Tillman was beaten by unknown attackers, and the two friends intervened to help Tillman and were shot.
Rollins called his father on Friday around 10 p.m. and only said “help.”
The father jumped into his car and went where his son said he was going to fish.
“When he arrived, he noticed that his son Brandon was barely alive and his two friends died,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
“Brandon has been able to say a few things to his father that we are not disclosing at this time.”
Rollins’ father had left his home without his cell phone, so he returned to a nearby gas station and called 911, the sheriff said.
“I was so upset last night that I just didn’t know what to do,” said Cyril Rollins, Brandon’s father.
“We have heard some background and they are all busy,” he said WFLA told 8.
“But I left, I went here. When I got there I was looking for my son. It was a mess.
“I found my son. I held him, he told me what happened, but I was too shocked to know what was going on. ‘
When the authorities came to the scene, all three men were dead.
“This is a horrifying scene,” said Judd.
“I’ve seen many murder scenes in my life and this is one of the worst I’ve ever been.”
The sheriff said they believed there was more than one murderer and that the victims knew their killers.
‘We are looking for leads; we need help so we can solve this crime sooner than later, because there are one or more, we suspected, murderers who killed three people in a quiet community, “he said.
Judd added that the suspect or suspects may have known the men.
“You’re not just tripping here,” he said. “It’s not that there are many people here. As you can see, they are cow pastures and lakes. ‘
Polk Country Sheriff Grady Judd said the ‘horrific’ scene was one of the worst he’d seen
Police issued a $ 5,000 reward for information about the attack.
Rollins’ girlfriend Jessica Steenson told WFLA 8 that the sheriff promised to find the killers.
“That he won’t stop until the three boys, my friend and his two best friends, have been served justice,” she said.
“I moved for him from Jacksonville, Florida two years ago, and I shouldn’t and I want justice for him. And I won’t stop until he understands. ‘
Rollins’ mother Dottie Payton said she also wants justice to be done.
“I want it to be served properly and I am sure they will see and see what is going on and that they should come forward,” she said.
