Chinese authorities have arrested three teenagers following the brutal death and botched burial of their 13-year-old classmate.

The young boy, who was only identified by his surname, Wang, was reportedly found buried in an abandoned vegetable garden in Handan, northern China, last week.

His face was badly damaged by a shovel that was used to bury him, the state-owned Global Times newspaper reported.

According to Wang’s father, the boy left home around 1 p.m. on March 10 and had not been heard from since around 5 p.m.

The boy’s family searched him from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., but they could not find him.

After police responded and checked surveillance footage, they discovered the boy had last spent time with his three now-detained classmates, all of whom denied meeting him.

But while checking Wang’s WeChat messages, Wang’s father discovered that his son had transferred money to one of the three bullies.

After receiving the evidence, they quickly broke down and admitted to burying him in the abandoned vegetable shed.

An autopsy has since revealed that he suffered serious head and back injuries.

Wang’s father said the teenager had a good character and was always willing to help his family with household chores.

Previously, he was hesitant about going to school, but his parents dismissed these concerns because they did not realize he was being bullied for a long time.

Police are still investigating his death.

The case sparked an outpouring of grief across China, with tens of thousands posting about it on social media platforms Weibo and Douyin.

One social media user said in a comment that received 50,000 likes: “The whole country is following this case, I hope the police can be fair and give the victim’s family a satisfactory answer.”
