A mother has encouraged other parents to remind their children to put on shoes in the playground after her daughter came home from school with blood-filled burns on her feet.
The little girl, who goes to school in South Auckland, played a game of barefoot basketball during a sports class at school during the heat.
Only when she left the field did she notice the pain in her feet.
“She had no idea that her feet were blistering until she rested for a while, and then she walked [home] about them, “her mother told the NZHerald.

The mother said she should take her daughter to her local medical center daily so that the doctor can connect and clean the wounds
She walked home in pain before telling her mother, who wanted to remain anonymous, that she had hurt herself.
When her mother took off her shoes, she saw terrible burns on the balls of both feet, which in turn blew and were filled with blood.
She now has at least a week off from school while recovering from the injuries.
The mother said she should take her daughter to her local medical center daily so that the doctor can connect and clean the wounds.
“I’ve never seen anything like it, it shocked me,” she said.
“Make sure your children, especially toddlers, keep their shoes on in this heat because it’s dangerous.”
She also encouraged people with pets to bring their dogs early in the morning or late at night to prevent them from hurting their paws.
Her child’s school responded immediately after contacting them by sending an email to all teachers who insisted that children keep their shoes on during outdoor activities.
