The mother of five, 34, transforms a dilapidated old van into a luxury coffee cart with Bunnings items

A mom of five revealed how she transformed a rundown old van she found on Facebook Marketplace into a luxury coffee cart with Bunnings Warehouse items, and how you can too.

Zoe Crain, 34, from Tamworth, said it was always her ‘dream’ to own a cafe – and now she has made it a reality with the help of her ‘handyman’ father who helped her get the van put in a stylish coffee shop on wheels.

“We worked on it between 6:00 AM and 2:00 PM every day, but I am super happy with the results,” Zoe told FEMAIL.

“About 90 percent of the items in the van and the materials we used were purchased from Bunnings, and all in all, I spent about $ 5,000 getting my dream van.”

After purchasing the van from Facebook Marketplace, Zoe said the first major project “took it out” of all the old materials.

“I was nervous when we started because I felt a little strange spending some of my savings on what looked like a wreck, but my mom kept reassuring me that my dad is a builder and so it would be you’ve never seen “the best of you”, “said Zoe.

“When we started stripping and pulling the walls off, we realized that almost every piece of wood was rotten.

“So we replaced the frame, placed extra pieces to support the door frames, and figured out where the power points should be and how much we needed.

“Once this was resolved, we could start thinking about the inside of the van – the wall coverings, new roof coverings and floor.”

“I was nervous when we started because I felt a little strange spending some of my savings on what looked like a wreck, but my mom kept reassuring me that my dad is a builder and so it would being “the best of you” have ever seen, “said Zoë (the van pictured above)

After this, Zoe said that she and her father and five children painted the outside of the van and tirelessly “worked and worked and worked” until they had something that looked less like a worn out van and more like a coffee shop.

“My friend in Toowoomba made our cafe clothes outfits and the logo on the outside of the van,” she said.

Zoe said the biggest event she has done is the Tamworth Country Music Festival, where she worked in 16-hour shifts for 10 days straight.

“We tackled wind, rain and dust storms, but it was the best ten days of my life and I can’t wait to do it again next year,” said Zoë.

“It really is a dream come true.”

Speaking of her tips for others looking to do a little DIY, the mom of five said you should be absolutely patient.

What are Zoe’s tips for DIY?

* Remember that everything takes time and it won’t happen overnight.

* Shop locally and support local businesses to save valuable money.

* Even if you think you can’t do something, you probably can. YouTube has great tutorials.

* Measure twice, cut once.

* Use a good paint and a good brush and the results will be visible.

“Everything takes time,” said Zoë.

“But you can save money if you do it yourself. Even if you don’t think you can do it, YouTube has great tutorials. ‘

Zoe also said that shopping locally and supporting local businesses can help you save money.

“Measure twice, cut once,” she added.

“My dad had me do a few chores, and I’m so glad I measured a few.”

Finally, Zoe said that you should use a ‘good paint’ and a good brush instead of a cheap one and that the ‘results will show’.

“We are very happy with the results,” she said.
