The Momento contestant Who wants to be a millionaire asks his wife for help but faces another male voice

The Call a Friend option in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? is always fraught with tension, as contestants put their chances in someone else’s hands.

But in the episode, things got even more dramatic when a contestant called his wife to help him get a huge check, only to hear another man’s voice.

In a resurfaced clip from 2020, Lincoln’s JP Morgan used the Call a Friend option, hoping his wife would help him win £16,000, but was left baffled when another man apparently answered the call.

Seconds after JP pressed the dial, he was confronted by a man’s voice, though it seemed to be an automated message before Elizabeth finally answered.

Alarmed, star presenter Jeremy Clarkson said: “That was a man who just answered his phone.”

Realizing that her comment had made JP panic, she continued, “But relax, he could be completely innocent.”

When she responded, Jeremy asked, “Can I confirm that you have someone with you?”

The science teacher was wondering: “Which of these days is the weekend in Germany?” when he decided to use the handy calling feature.

The four options presented to him were Donnerstag, Mittwoch, Sonntag or Dienstag, before he was asked to call his wife Elizabeth, who has close family ties to Germany.

JP said: ‘My wife’s aunt has lived in Germany for over 50 years, my wife has been there several times.

“My wife, who at other times would probably have been in the audience, is at home as one of my Phone a friends.”

Surprised viewers quickly expressed their thoughts on YouTube, where shorten has accumulated just under 350,000 views.

One joked: “Greetings to all of us gathered here just to find out if your wife is cheating on you.”

Another added: “That was the most awkward Phone A Friend ever.” When the host asked her to confirm if she had anyone there with her, I died.”

A more practical user chimed in with his theory: “I think realistically it was an automated service and there was a little connection issue lol.”

And another user speculated: ‘Didn’t he say he was indeed with someone and also apologized later?’

Another joked: “It seems like he’s worried about the money he earns going to alimony.”

Some were unimpressed with presenter Jeremy: ‘I really threw a couple under the bus for a cheap laugh.

“Now people will talk about it with the couple even after the show ends.”
