A worker has died after a machine hit him at a factory in the far south east of Melbourne.

The 47-year-old was working at the Dandenong South plant when he was hit by a rubber extruder attachment.

He sustained a head injury and later died.

WorkSafe Victoria is investigating the death, the 19th workplace fatal accident this year.
