A McDonald's manager who was attacked by two thugs as horrified observers has revealed that he had stepped in to help an employee when the assault began.

Nathan Whittemore, 27, was repeatedly beaten by 16 and 19-year-old brothers in Boston, Lincolnshire, on Tuesday, but stood firm to protect his staff.

The mother of the couple has apologized after the video has been shared on Facebook thousands of times.

Whittemore, who is 6 feet 4 inches, told The Sun Online that he intervened after the couple abused a drunken colleague.

When he went to confront them, he was attacked around eleven o'clock at night.

He said: "I knew there were small children and families inside the restaurant, so I had to keep calm and try to stay professional.

"But it was extremely difficult considering that they hit me in the face and put my shirt on."

"I only had some punches and marks around my neck and back because they were taking my uniform off, it did not hurt, fortunately they did not hit so hard, I will live.

Whittemore has been hailed as an online hero and at home, his wife Katie said she is "proud of him" but does not dare to see the brutal images.

The manager, whose wife Katie admitted that he can not force himself to look at the footage, even went back to work the next day, despite being offered the day off.

Although he does not see himself as a hero, Whittemore said he could smell the alcohol in the brothers and knew he had to intervene.

The video shows one of the teenagers throwing punches at the manager, holding on to his neck and using his other hand to give the ruthless blows, after he approached them.

The other teenager adds to the attack, since both hit the employee.

He said: "It's not my job to take a beating, but my job is to make sure that my staff and clients feel safe and we have a zero tolerance policy towards bad behavior.

If the same thing happened again, it would not do anything different. I was glad when they left.

The mother of the two teenagers apologized for her "unacceptable" behavior.

In a Facebook message seen by MailOnline, the mother said she was "very sad and embarrassed that my children did this," before promising to "deal with the situation."

Witness Jasmine Brudenall, 28, captured the fight in front of the camera, which began when the manager told them to leave to lock an employee in a closet and "shake" his cap.

When they refused, the couple broke out in a fit of rage and threw themselves into the manger, which was forced to defend itself when no one intervened.

Mrs. Brudenall of Boston said the couple was accompanied by their father and that the three of them had been drinking.

The mother also confessed that she had been sent & # 39; hate comments & # 39; for the incident and begged them to stop.

The video begins with Mr. Whittemore trying to protect the other smaller employee from the two lawless teenagers, who are acting aggressively towards the two staff members.

Close customers have their backs away from the scene, but they can be seen laughing at the situation.
