San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan’s security team was involved in a physical altercation while he was downtown for a restaurant opening.
The altercation broke out while Mahan was being interviewed by a local news station. crown 4. The entire interaction was captured on video.
At the beginning of the video, the pedestrian is seen walking alongside Mahan’s right shoulder, talking on the phone as he approaches the security team.
The mayor politely tells the man that he is in the middle of an interview, to which the pedestrian said, ‘Yes, I work there, I was just on the phone, do you have a problem?’
Mahan’s security team, an officer with the San Jose Police Department, attempted to de-escalate the situation when the pedestrian became more aggressive.

The mayor politely tells the man that he is in the middle of an interview, to which the pedestrian said, ‘Yes, I work there, I was just on the phone, do you have a problem?’
The pedestrian yells at the officer and tells him to “mind your damn business.”
“I was going to do what the fuck I was going to do right before you walked up to me,” he told the security guard.
From there, the situation worsened and became physical in a matter of seconds. The pedestrian threatened the officer that he would slap him.
The fight continued when the pedestrian punched the officer in the head with his right hand.
Pedestrians called for police backup and the pedestrian was eventually detained.
The officer involved in the altercation suffered an injury and was taken to the hospital, where he spent the night with head and neck pain.
The video captured by KRON4 will be presented as evidence to the district attorney’s office, police told the local outlet.
The mayor was not physically harmed during this incident as his security team did exactly what they were hired to do.
The suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple charges, including felony assault on a police officer. The reason has not yet been determined.
Mahan’s office issued the following statement regarding the incident:
‘Mayor Matt Mahan is deeply grateful to his security team and the entire San Jose Police Department.
