The Matildas have publicly thanked The Wiggles after fans blamed the children’s music group for the loss of the women’s soccer team against the United States.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, the Matildas shared a short video of The Wiggles walking off the football field after their performance of the national anthem.

As they exited Sydney’s ANZ Stadium, Matildas coach Tony Gustavsson excitedly approached the group and offered a fist punch to each member.

The Matildas lost 3-0 to the US women’s team in a disappointing soccer game on Saturday.
