Bryson DeChambeau holed out from 77 yards to end his third round with a birdie

Scottie Scheffler’s jaw dropped after watching the dramatic climax of Bryson DeChambeau’s chaotic third round at The Masters.

At the end of a wild few hours of action at Augusta, Scheffler shot a 1-under 71 to give himself a shot heading into Sunday’s final round.

He had begun to move alongside DeChambeau at the top of the leaderboard, only for the LIV rebel to post a three-over-par 75 on Saturday.

After going one over par on the front nine, DeChambeau threatened to implode. He made bogeys at 11 and 12 and then, after a birdie at 14, unraveled the par-five 15th.

He found the trees and then the creek before finally making double bogey. He followed up with a three-putt bogey on the 16th.

The approach landed a few meters from the hole.

Then the ball rolled into the cup.

DeChambeau’s approach landed a few feet from the flag before rolling toward the hole.

But DeChambeau then recovered a shot in dramatic fashion on the final hole. After a wayward drive into the trees, he was forced to return the ball to the fairway. From 77 yards, the 30-year-old landed a few feet from the flag and watched the ball roll toward the hole.

Scheffler was waiting for an interview when he saw the shot on television. His funny reaction was caught on camera.

The world number one’s mouth opened and he soon started saying ‘wow’. The birdie moved DeChambeau back to three under par.

The 2020 US Open champion is now in fifth place, four shots behind Scheffler, heading into the final round. Collin Morikawa (-6), Max Homa (-5) and Ludvig Aberg (-4) sit between DeChambeau and the leader.
