On how difficult it was to keep his participation in this year’s competition a secret, Danny said: “Very difficult and even more so now that I’ve won.”

‘It’s been really difficult because I get excited very easily about things and I’m totally involved when I do something. I’m supposed to be on tour.

“It’s been very difficult, but that’s part of the fun, right?”

And as to whether the rest of McFly would be surprised to find out he was Piranha, he said: “I think the kids will be very surprised.” I’m my own worst enemy, so I’m always like, “That wasn’t very good,” so they always make me stronger.

“They will guess me right away.”

Before their performance, Piranha sang Lay Me Down by Sam Smith and Jonathan said: “I think it was the best performance, not only of this series but of any series.”

“That was extraordinarily good.”

It comes after Cricket was the first celebrity to reveal his identity in The Masked Singer UK final.

The celebrity panel consisting of Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and special guest panelist Rob Brydon correctly guessed that the individual was singer Lemar.

Upon deciding to participate in the show, Lemar said: ‘I’m a fan of the show. I like the show. I like the characters, I like the fun content.

‘Once I realized I could be creative and make whatever songs I wanted, I thought yeah, let’s get started!

“I didn’t think I would last this long (in the series) if I’m honest, maybe two or three weeks, but I made it to the final.”

Of acting as Cricket, he said: “It’s like an alter ego, you can go out and be funny.” You can interact with the children in the audience. I had a lot of fun doing that.

‘Luckily, singing wasn’t too difficult in the costume. It’s quite an experience to sing and play certain notes with something right in front of your face, so it was a challenge and the heat inside the costume was immense, but other than that it was a lot of fun!’

The contestants began the grand finale with a performance of By Your Side by Calvin Harris with Tom Grennan.

Cricket was the first celebrity to sing solo in the final of the ITV1 reality competition and performed Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles.

Bigfoot was the second contestant and sang The One And Only by Chesney Hawkes.

Judge Davina McCall, who also co-hosted The Jump with Alex in 2014, had already pieced together the clues and guessed her friend’s identity.

He said: ‘It was just the most fun. “I love the show, my daughters love this show, they have no idea.”

‘Girls, this is where Dad goes all the time, that’s why Dad sings in the car!’

Finishing runner-up, Alex said: ‘I can’t believe it! He hoped he could get through a show. I loved singing “You’re welcome” from Moana. I thought that, hopefully, that could help me get through a program.

After that, I never in a million years thought I’d make it this far. Even in the final I thought I would be third. He’s been amazing.

‘Obviously, I realize I’m not a professional singer as you definitely heard, but I just wanted to have a good time and for the audience to have a good time, that’s why I chose the songs I did.

‘I love the show, my girls love the show. I wanted my daughters to have a good time watching me.’

On reaching the final with BRIT Award winner Lemar, who also played at Glastonbury, Alex said: “That’s absolutely crazy.” I’m really proud of myself.
