An American has grown his incredibly long beard over the last five years – now two and a half feet tall.
Lance Wooton from London, Kentucky first decided to grow a beard in June 2014 so that he could dress up as a pirate four months later, but he didn't shave when the costume holiday was over.
The 32-year-old clearly loves the long facial hair look and then grew for years – and has tried his luck in more than 30 beard competitions
Something new: Lance Wooton, 32, from London, Kentucky decided to grow a beard in 2014
Change: the beard first grew up for the sole purpose of a Halloween costume. But Lance then decided to keep it long
The beginning: Lance was later contacted online about participating in a beard competition
& # 39; I started growing my beard because I wanted to become a pirate for Halloween – I know it's not that cool, but it's true & # 39 ;, said Lance, who works as an IT supervisor.
He got a seriously long lead and started to grow it in June, so that it would become beautiful and bushy in October.
Once rolled around that month, however, it brought more than pirate costumes.
Unbelievable: Lance has attended more than 30 beard competitions to show off his facial hair
& # 39; Around October a buddy of mine who owns a barber shop here in London, KY, invited me to view some beard products, & # 39; he continued.
& # 39; I had no idea that such a thing even existed. I bought a few and posted some photos on Instagram. & # 39;
Lance was later contacted for a beard competition by a company called CanYouHandleBar, which organized an event in Newport, Kentucky.
& # 39; When I arrived, I was shocked to see the friendships and the big beards, & # 39; he said.
In the next five years, he had exciting opportunities to travel and enter even more beard competitions.
He even won second place for the Full Beard Natural category in the United States, and fourth place for the Full Beard Natural category internationally.
& # 39; I thought to myself: I bet I can grow a big beard and that we have been here for five years and I am fourth in the world and second in the nation, & # 39; said Lance.
& # 39; Some people stare at me, some say & # 39; wow, beautiful beard & # 39; but the most common I get is: & # 39; How long have you been growing? & # 39;
& # 39; I think some people think it's crazy or ridiculous, but I don't feel like it. It has not really changed my love life that I can tell. If a beard stands in the way of love, is it really love? & # 39;
Proud: & # 39; I thought to myself: I bet I can grow a big beard and here we have been fighting for five years and I am fourth in the world and second in the nation, & # 39; said Lance.
Not upset: Lance confessed that some people are bearded & # 39; ridiculous & # 39; because of the length. But he is not bothered by the criticism
Dedicated: & # 39; I just take care of it; I use oil, balm, I do not overwrite or abuse it. I make sure I stay hydrated, & he said
Amazing: his beard is now almost three feet long and 12 centimeters wide
Although he has received comments that he & # 39; crazy & # 39; is or that his beard & # 39; ridiculous & # 39; , he has not prevented this from growing his beard – which is now two and a half feet long and twelve centimeters wide.
He describes his beard as a hassle when it comes to daily activities such as food or daily chores, but he keeps it growing as long as possible.
Maintenance and hydration are also essential to keep his beard long and healthy.
& # 39; I just take care of it; I use oil, balm, I do not overwrite or abuse it. I make sure I stay hydrated, & he said.
& # 39; Some inconveniences of the beard appear when I'm swimming, eating, in the wind or working on something.
& # 39; It can be quite a job, but on the other hand I have received sponsors and I have been able to travel all over the world. Just like everything, it has advantages and disadvantages.
& # 39; Pros: the community and the friendships I made along the way. The charities and I lie when I said that I didn't like the trophies and free products. The adventure of everything has made it worthwhile.
& # 39; Disadvantages: the hassle of everyday life. I have to look at it, protect it, I don't like the wind. It gets old and the same questions are answered over and over again. When random people try to grab it.
& # 39; It takes patience and time to grow a beard. You need hydration and oil, usually genes, and prepare for hassle. & # 39;
