Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said Monday in a statement that death did not seem intentional.

“This is still an active case, but right now all the evidence suggests that the shooting was not intentional – an unfortunate, tragic event during the improper handling of a loaded firearm,” he said.

The case will be referred to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office to assess for potential criminal prosecution.
