The man appears in court to charge indictment for murder & # 39; for murdering his toddler son's mother & # 39;

A Californian man accused of murdering the mother of his 17-month-old son during a custody exchange outside a police station, was first portrayed on Tuesday for the first time when he was accused of first-degree murder.

Jacob Munn, 30, appeared in the Superior Court in Los Angeles for charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a criminal in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Brenda Renteria, who was killed with a shotgun blast outside the Hawthorne police station on Sunday.

If he is convicted, Munn can face the death penalty or prison life without the possibility of conditional release.

A statement by the prosecutor in Los Angeles County said that a decision about seeking the death penalty for Munn will be taken at a later date.

Meanwhile, more information has appeared about the victim of the creepy murder, who was a single mother raising three children.

Photos shared on a GoFundMe page launched by a family member have Brenda Renteria happily pose with her two oldest children, a boy and a girl, and with her youngest son who was raised by Munn.

From Wednesday morning, just over $ 2,600 has been raised in donations, which is far below the $ 15,000 target.

On Tuesday, the older sister of Renteria, Elizabeth, wrote a moving Facebook post about her loss.

& # 39; No words can describe the trauma my family and I are currently experiencing [sic] incredible, & she wrote. & # 39; I ask that you all pray for my little sister Brenda, may her BEAUTIFUL soul rest in heavenly peace. I pray that the holy spirit will come upon our family so that we have the power we need to get through this devastating tragedy. & # 39;

In addition to her three children, Brenda is survived by her mother, who witnessed her violent death, her four brothers and sisters and two cousins.

According to researchers, Renteria had gone to the police station on Hawthorne Boulevard on Sunday to pick up her son from the child's father, Munn.

The mother had asked her family to go to the exchange because she was afraid of Munn, KCAL reported.

While they were standing outside the lobby of the police station, the parents started arguing.

At one point during the exchange, Munn reportedly produced a gun and fired at Renteria, killing her a stone's throw from the front door of the police station.

A relative of the victim, who witnessed the shooting, saw howling on scene images while comforted by an officer.

The 17-month-old son of the couple was present at the shooting but was not physically injured.

He was at the police station at that time. The child has been taken into custody.

Munn fled but was arrested after a manhunt.

& # 39; I have been in the department for 30 years and I have never seen anything like it before & # 39 ;, said Lt. Scott Hoaglund during a press conference on Sunday, according to KCAL.

A family member of the murdered mother told NBC Los Angeles that she and her son's father had decided to meet in Hawthorne because it was a middle ground between their respective whereabouts.

& # 39; I don't know if a restraining order existed, or if this was just an agreed location for the exchange to take place & # 39 ;, said Lt. Scott Hoglund, professor of the Los Angeles County Sheriff. & # 39; I do not know whether a procedural document has been involved in this. & # 39;

Online records indicate that Munn has a previous criminal record with a detention in December 2017 on the battery of a former companion.

Munn is the owner of a moving company that is registered in Temecula, California, called Lionspaw Movers.

On his company's website it says that Munn has worked as a mover for the past eight years.

A phone call to a telephone number linked to the Munn removal company went directly to voicemail on Monday afternoon.
