Prosecutors say he was on bail at the time of the shooting and that there are two pending cases for a DUI indictment and possession of an over-the-counter drug.

Samaniego’s lawyers argued that he has no previous convictions as these two cases are still pending.

The judge ordered Samaniego to be held without bail because of the officer’s serious condition and because the suspect is a danger to the community.

Agent Mikalonis, who has been a four-year veteran of the police, remained on life support on Wednesday after the bullet hit him in the back and got stuck in his face.

Police say Mikalonis was shot from across the street trying to break protesters.

The officers were hit by rocks and bottles when a shot sounded and Mikalonis went down, according to Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, chief of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The protest on Monday began near President Donald Trump’s non-casino hotel, Trump International Tower, just off the Las Vegas Strip and remained peaceful for more than four hours.

Lombardo and local officials have repeatedly called for peaceful events in recent days.

They have so far resisted calls to impose a curfew in Las Vegas.

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak said on Tuesday that he prayed for the “officer who was senselessly shot” and “all Nevada communities experiencing grief and pain.”

“It is during these difficult times that we need to remind ourselves that creating a state where justice and peace coexist in partnership, and not as a binary choice, is the goal we all need to work towards,” he said. .
