In the new trailer for the live action Little Mermaid, we finally see more of the undersea world that Ariel wants to leave. And the big question we have is… why? The ocean rules.
Halle Bailey will play Ariel in the upcoming remake. Previous teasers for the live action remake have showcased Bailey’s powerful vocals in “Part of Your World” and given a quick look at the movie, but this is the first to reveal more of the movie we know and love. love – and more of the changes in this new retelling. First, we see Ariel save Eric from a shipwreck, which looks more fiery and intense than the original movie.
Of course, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – that’s why the iconic moment of Ariel breaking triumphantly on a rock as the waves crash around her still takes center stage.
In addition to Bailey as Ariel, the live action Little Mermaid stars Melissa McCarthy as the scheming sea witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as the overprotective King Triton, and Jonah Hauer-King as the dashing Prince Eric, with Daveed Diggs as the musical crab Sebastian, Awkwafina as the wacky seagull Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay as the voice from Flounder, Ariel’s best fish friend.
Directed by Rob Marshall (In the woods), with new music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken, The little Mermaid will be in cinemas from May 26.
