Marvel’s next spin-off series after that WandaVision and the constant Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be Loki, a show dedicated to Asgard’s trickster god and Thor’s brother. And now we have another trailer, starring longtime Marvel mainstay Tom Hiddleston in the title role, and now a little more info on exactly what he’s been commissioned to do. The show premieres on Disney Plus on June 11.
Loki is another dramatic tonal departure for Marvel, which has set up its spin-off series as experimental dives into a variety of genres. This one feels more in line with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s love of alternate universe antics, although it does some serious channeling Umbrella Academy vibes when Loki is asked by Mobius (Owen Wilson) to help correct the timeline he disrupted when using the Tesseract throughout The Infinity Saga.
The series introduces the Time Variance Authority, the organization responsible for overseeing the multiverse, and certainly many more of the mind-blowing time travel we got during EndgameWilson also pulls out a charmingly devilish Mobius – and Hiddleston, as usual, is his excellent self – in a way that makes me quite excited to see where Disney and Marvel take this particular storyline.
