A young Australian actress and model from Western Australia died suddenly. Sariya Saibu (pictured), who starred in the award-winning 2021 short film Beautiful They, passed away on January 30. A devastated relative broke the news online, saying that the performer, from Perth, radiates both “love and light” and “I wish her ‘radiant spirit continues to shine’.” Her aunt, Cassandra Colvin, wrote: “This morning we lost our beloved Saria.” I am finding it difficult to find the words to express the grief that I and her family are feeling at this time. Beautiful RIP – all our love always.

Saibu played Violet alongside Australian actor Morgan Davies' character, Blue, in Beautiful They, which screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival. The clip, directed by Cloudy Rhodes, is a coming-of-age LGBTQI surf romance that explores the nuances of the genders. The following year, the film won the Queer Screen Mardi Gras Award 2022 winner for Best Film and Best Australian Short Film for Melbourne.
