Israeli government ministers on Monday approved a plan to build a pipeline in the south of the country, extending 65 km to the border with Egypt, to transport six billion cubic meters of gas annually, with the aim of increasing exports to Cairo. Israel had started exporting natural gas to Egypt since January 2020, as part of a deal that is the most important since the Camp David peace agreement between the two countries in 1979.
The Israeli Ministry of Energy announced Monday that the government has agreed to increase natural gas exports to Egypt through a plan to expand Israel’s pipeline network.
Israel supplies Cairo Already gassed from their offshore fields, the two countries signed together agreement with the European Union To boost exports to Europe as well.
The ministry said the approval, issued on Monday, allows for the construction of a NIS 900 million ($248 million) pipeline in southern Israel that will extend 65 km to the border with Egypt and transport 6 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
