Apple’s usual September event came and went, with some upgraded iPads and Apple Watches. But what’s an annual gathering without the usual flagship? Now, just as the company is getting ready iPhone 12 series before a launch in October, we hear rumors about a fourth variant.
To date, all reports had suggested that the iPhone 12 series will likely come in three variants: the vanilla iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Now a leaker suggests there could be another addition that could be dubbed the iPhone 12 Mini.
Twitter tipster, L0verodream says the iPhone 12 Mini would add to the line-up and could be packaged in a 5.4-inch display, larger than the iPhone SE 2020 and still a compact form factor in the year 2020.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will likely come with a 6.1-inch screen, and the top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro Max is said to have a 6.7-inch screen up front. The iPhone 12 mini is said to have a dual rear camera, while the other three iPhone 12 series will likely have a triple rear camera.
The nickname “Mini” is not new to Apple’s world. We’ve seen iPad mini, Mac mini, and even iPod mini before. The iPhone 12 mini will be the first in the iPhone line with this nickname. If the rumors prove true, the iPhone 12 mini will be smaller than the 2019 iPhone 11 Pro Max which has a 5.8-inch display.
Apart from that, there is not much information about the iPhone 12 yet. The iPhone 12 series would come with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. It is also said that the new iPhone 12 series will come with Apple’s new A14 Bionic chipset. It’s a six-core CPU, which Apple claims can deliver up to 40% performance improvement over the A12. The quad-core GPU could bring up to 30% peak in graphics performance. We also know that the iPhone 12 series will be equipped with a new LiDAR sensor along with the cameras for advanced 3D depth mapping.
