An event planner shocked TikTok users after outlining the rules

TikTok users were shocked by the controversial wedding rules that the bride and groom applied at their ceremony.

Event planner Ivy Miller revealed that a bride and groom asked their guests to follow several rules if they wanted to attend their wedding – no ifs, ands or buts.

The bride and groom tied the knot in a lavish ceremony earlier this year, which Miller said cost just $15,000.

Miller’s post has received more than 3.5 million views and counting, and several commenters have since criticized the couple for their “draconian” rules.

Whether it was out of personal preference or to save money, these wedding rules caused a stir and almost no TikTokers had anything nice to say about them.

Miller revealed that the DJ at the happy couple’s wedding did not take any song requests from those attending the ceremony.

Although DJs often accept song requests, couples sometimes object to the practice, in part because they have a “particular vision” for their reception, according to DJ Ben Boylan.

“It is very important to them that certain songs are played, and probably even more important that certain songs are not played,” Boylan wrote in his blog.

“Pretty much every couple I work with gives me a list of songs not to play, and I’ve gotten every genre you can think of on that list. Every couple is different.”

Boylan added that couples should do what they’re comfortable with when it comes to music, and Miller said the bride and groom suggested their guests “go to the club” if they want to make song requests.

Don’t ask a wedding photographer to take your photo

The couple insisted that their guests not ask the wedding photographer to take photos of them during the ceremony or reception.

Wedding photographers typically charge between $1,000 and $5,000, but some may even charge more than $10,000 depending on the circumstances.

Whether the event is big or small, no couple should expect to have photos of everyone attending the wedding, according to the photographer. Zoe Larkin.

“One request I’ve heard is, ‘I want a photo of every guest at my wedding,'” Zoe wrote.

“While I completely understand the sentiment behind it, this task is often more challenging than it seems.”

One TikTok user wrote: “The photographer rule is kind of sad. I mean, if you invite the people you love to your big day, don’t you want them to see it?”

Instead of photo requests, Miller revealed the couple decided to create a shared wedding album through the Dots Memories app.

Companions are not allowed.

Experts consider it good etiquette for couples to offer escorts to guests who are engaged, married, or in a relationship for more than a year.

One of the main rules TikTokers criticized the married couple for was not allowing their guests to bring dates.

It is common for a potential wedding guest to ask the bride and groom for permission to bring a companion, or even accompany them to the event, without telling them in advance.

Miller revealed that the couple “didn’t want any strangers” at their wedding, but this rule could also have been in place to save money.

For weddings, venues and vendors take into account the number of attendees at the ceremony and reception when calculating the total cost of the festivities.

However, experts believe it is polite for couples to offer escorts to their guests when they are engaged, married, or have been in a relationship for more than a year.

No alcohol

One of the other major rules that TikTokers couldn’t help but comment on was the couple’s decision to not allow alcohol at their wedding.

“I want my guests to truly remember this day,” Miller wrote in her TikTok Slideshow.

Because this rule was in place, the couple hosted what attendees call a dry wedding: a wedding where no alcohol is served at the reception or throughout the day.

Dry weddings can help attendees, the bride or groom, avoid messy situations and ensure that guests return home safely.

However, it could affect the energy of a room, especially if guests were expecting it to be an alcohol-free wedding.

“I once went to a wedding without alcohol. It was the most boring wedding I’ve ever been to,” wrote one TikTok user.

Everyone went home at 8:00 and for most of the evening the guests did not appear.
