Furious activists risk being run over as they stage a dramatic motor racing protest – but one unbelievable mistake has turned them into a laughingstock
- Activists protest against electric car race
- Demonstrators glued themselves to the tracks
- Drivers and fans left confused in protest
Climate activists have confused drivers and motorsport fans when they interrupted a Formula-E electric car race in Berlin to protest.
Drivers were at their grid getting ready for the weekend’s second race when activists climbed over fences and tried to cling to the track.
The demonstrators were promptly taken off the track by security, delaying the start of the race by six minutes.
German climate change activists ‘Last Generation’ claimed responsibility for the protest, which had outlined plans to disrupt other events in Germany.
“We’re on the @eFORMELDe circuit to sound the alarm,” the group wrote on Twitter.

The protest was reminiscent of the six Just Stop Oil demonstrators who threw themselves onto the track at last year’s British Grand Prix – only this was an all-electric car race.
Formula E champion Antonio Felix da Costa was stunned by the protest.
“I guess we’re all fighting for the same thing, right?” he told The race.
“I’m not sure what they’re trying to do because we’re probably the worst category in motorsport for them to come and do this.
‘We are by far the most ecological, sustainable and new zero series that has ever existed. We push the boundaries in all directions.’
Former race winner Robin Frijns was also confused by what he saw.
“I just can’t really understand those people, what they’re really thinking,” two-time race winner Robin Frijns told The Race.
“We are here, Formula E stands for helping the environment and then they do this. I don’t really understand.’
Race fans had a field day on Twitter to toast the activists.
“If you want to turn your protest into a joke, do something like this,” one user wrote.
“Doing this at a formula e race is fucking hilarious,” replied another.
“Do they know what the E stands for?” said a third.
The demonstration comes just days after a Just Stop Oil activist forced a World Cup snooker match to be canceled after jumping on a table and throwing orange powder over it.
