A former Secret Service agent who protected Presidents Barack Obama and George HW Bush has revealed the key signs that someone is lying to you.
Evy Poumpouras, who received a U.S. Secret Service Medal of Valor for her heroism on 9/11, served in the Secret Service for 12 years and was a standout on the presidential detail for several leaders.
After leaving the service, the former agent, who “grew up in the White House” and began her career under President Bill Clinton, has been sharing her secrets with the world.
As an interrogator and agent, Eva became a pro at reading people and has now given her advice on spotting a liar and how to get someone to do what you want in an episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast hosted by Steve Bartlett.

Evy was born and raised in New York City and knew she wanted to protect her land, so at a young age she joined the NYPD.
At age 22, the blonde powerhouse entered the Secret Service.
Beginning his presidential career under Clinton, he learned many tricks that he later applied throughout his career and personal life.
Speaking on the podcast, he said: ‘I grew up in the White House. I grew up in the United States Secret Service. That’s how I grew up, those things helped shape me.
“It’s easier to get into Harvard than it is to get into the Secret Service.”
Evy detailed the various skills she learned, including how to spot a liar based on a few clues.
He explained that the biggest mistake people used to make when lying was talking too much.
Evy noticed that to detect a liar, it was first necessary to find his reference point.

“One of the things I’ve heard a lot of guilty people say is, ‘I swear to God,'” he said.
Evy noted that when people included “religion,” they immediately thought they had committed the crime.

‘You need to understand that person’s motivational mindset, what motivates them. That is her value and belief system. If you give people enough space, they will reveal themselves to you.
‘We’re so busy talking and making noise and thinking me, me, me, me and you know what, nobody cares.
‘People will show you how much they care if we hold back and remain silent. “You have to not judge or people will shut down.”
In addition to getting people to do what you want, the former agent revealed that you can also demand respect from others.
He explained that it all started with how you reacted to the lack of respect.
Evy said that when someone disrespects you, you have to take it and ask yourself why they thought they could behave that way towards you.
She said: “People are so afraid of stepping on someone’s feet or hurting their feelings, and that’s worse.”
The former member of the Secret Service pointed out that to become a good leader you cannot let your emotions take over.
He added that great leaders “didn’t get carried away by emotions.”

The former agent wrote in her book, Becoming Bulletproof, that Michelle, the first black First Lady, had to endure belittlement “that none of her predecessors ever faced.”
‘I was in his protection team when we drove to a school to give a speech; “We passed someone on a bridge holding a shockingly racist sign directed at her,” he wrote in her book.
‘I remember feeling indignant; After all, it was part of our job to protect the first family both mentally and physically. But if the First Lady saw the sign, she gave no indication of it.
He also previously spoke about his heroism on 9/11 following the attack on the World Trade Towers.
Evy almost died trying to drag people to safety as the towers fell.
For her work, she became one of five women to receive the Medal of Valor.
