Mr Cameron was a vintage car expert who retired from Rolls-Royce in 2013.
This was after 20 years with the company, working on the design of cars such as the 3 Series, Z8, Phantom and Ghost.
Police called it a “crime of violence” and said the attacker fled the home on foot.
Search teams are using dogs and a helicopter to locate him.
But one officer told The Sun it is “extremely rare” for a burglar who prepares enough to disable the CCTV system to then “stab and kill” a person.
The suspect is reported to be between 180 and 190 cm tall, wearing light-coloured trousers and a dark blue hoodie, carrying a red backpack and yellowish-green gloves.
