Kovac, 52, was born in Berlin, Germany, but in his career as an elegant and defensive player he captained Croatia.
Upon taking over as manager, he won the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018 before achieving the league and cup double as coach of Bayern Munich a year later. He also coached Monaco from 2020 to 2022.
However, his time at Wolfsburg did not work out and he left in March.
Bundesliga clubs are also considering Kovac as interest grows.
