Jump into PS VR2 and beat up some monsters, then sit back and play with a controller on your PS5 while you cool off. The Foglands will launch with an FPS mode on PS5 alongside PS VR2 on October 31. So no headphones required! Whichever way you play, the fate of the Hold is in your hands.
Welcome to the Misty Lands
The Foglands is an upcoming atmospheric anti-Western roguelite that puts you in the shoes of Jim, a new racer. As a runner, the people of the Hold rely on you to bring home salvaged goods and defend against the twisted creatures of the Mist. When a giant from the deep threatens the survival of the Hold, it’s up to you to go out and stop it… and die trying.
Lucky for you, the mysterious figure known only as The Stranger is eager to lend you a hand. His supernatural deck of cards can grant you supernatural abilities to enhance your running prowess, for a price. He also has a few tricks up his sleeve, like stopping Jim from taking the final hit on him. He explores, fights, loots and dies…and then do it all again!
You’ll navigate an ever-changing world of mist, exploring, fighting, and collecting along the way as you attempt to defeat the giant worm-like creature that threatens the survival of your Stronghold.
Explore
Many things are lost in the fog, but the more you look, the more you find. As you venture through floors that change with each run, rooms that change their contents with each visit, and various biomes that would rather see you dead than alive, you’ll discover the secrets that the Mist clings to along the way. Not only will you find lost keys that belonged to the runners of yesteryear to unlock their secrets, you’ll even find some of those lost runners!
Struggle
With a healthy mix of bar fights and gunfights, The Foglands uses the best of PS VR2’s eye tracking and precision latency to deliver a mix of fistfights, gunfights, and aiming throws. Intentional targeting and eye tracking allow any object you can grab to become a weapon; After all, Runner training advises you to think on your feet and not rely too much on irons (you never know when a Scuttler will steal your trusty hand cannon). The more you develop your personal playstyle and land those sweet combos, the more the time slowing effect will help you defend yourself against the inhabitants of the Foglands.
Gather
The Mistlands may seem like a desolate hell of creaking metal and lurking predators, but there are riches for those who know where to look! Collect scrap metal and fog oil to unlock equipment upgrades, new items, and new areas. But be careful: death means the items you’ve collected are left behind, so be sure to use Loot Chutes to send your scrap home to spend on the next run.
There’s a lot more than material acquisitions out there: as you run, you’ll collect abilities from The Stranger’s Cards that make you increasingly powerful. Play to your strengths by choosing from three different outfits that enhance each play style: Fists (melee), Weapons (uh, guns), and Keys (exploration). So get out there and start looting!
