Netflix has released a trailer for its upcoming science fiction series Another life, starring Battlestar Galactica& # 39; S Katee Sackhoff. The series with ten episodes will premiere on July 25 and it looks like a nice cross between the film with the first contact Arrival and the Syfy channels Dark matter.

The series follows commander Niko Breckinridge (Sackhoff), who was chosen to lead a mission to a distant planet after an alien ship hit the earth. All the tropics of a "reluctant leader on the way to a dangerous mission" type of show are present: there are promises to loved ones that they will be back, only staring into space, and members of the crew musing about their place in history . Meanwhile, her husband (played by Justin Chatwin) has the task of finding out where the artifact comes from, and it seems that there are larger branches for the fate of humanity being thrown forever. Along the way, alien monsters, crew members apparently develop strange forces, and cockpit parties also factor in the story.

The series seems to have the feel of some of the big, silly science fiction shows of the early 2000s, such as Andromeda, Firefly, Stargate SG-1, as well as shows such as Dark matter, Killjoys, The Orvilleand Netflix & # 39; s Lost in space. These shows were not exactly at the same level of genre projects as Battlestar Galactica or The Expanse, but they are perfectly nice distractions that depend on a sufficiently good hook and enough nice characters to keep looking. This one looks like it has had enough of a fascinating mystery and planetary exploration. Hopefully it gets a little better than Syfy & # 39; s Nightflyers.
