In a post on Instagram, Barron said she was “honored and excited” to join the team, adding that she couldn’t “ask for a better team or an unbelievable adventure.”

Barron was born in Pocatello, Idaho, but considers Richland, Washington her hometown.

Before becoming an astronaut, she received a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from the US Naval Academy and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Cambridge.
