All witnesses have finished testifying in the ongoing civil trial against an Australian Rules legend, who is accused of sexually assaulting or inappropriately touching three women when they were young girls.

Now entering day five of the trial in the Western Australian District Court, Monday saw the final witnesses being cross-examined by plaintiff’s barrister Tim Hammond, giving evidence against WAFL and VFL legend Barry Cable.

The plaintiff, known to the court as ZYX to protect her identity, alleges that Mr. Cable molested and sexually abused her from the age of 12 in 1967, until her adult years in 1991.

A second woman, on Friday, accused Mr Cable of asking her to touch his genitals when she was eight, before massaging her breasts when she was 14.

A third woman told the court, on Monday, that Mr. Cable, now 79, unmasked himself, grabbed her chest, and stabbed her behind her with his erect penis while she was at a backyard spa in the early 1980s, when she was about 12 years old. the most. .

On Monday, the court also heard the plaintiff’s mother and a forensic accountant.

The court will meet again on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the admissibility of similar factual evidence presented by the two women who are not plaintiffs.

It’s likely that Judge Mark Heron will reserve his ruling on this matter either for later in the week, or on a single day next week.

Judge Heron expressed doubts about the similar fact, or tendency, evidence and whether or not it had any relevance to a civil case.

Mr. Cable has not yet appeared in any of the proceedings, having submitted a written pre-trial defence.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $1 million in damages for mental trauma and loss of wages from her alleged childhood sexual abuse that prevented her from completing her higher education.

However, Cable declared bankruptcy in January, so a payout from the case is unlikely.
