A well-known female celebrity appears unrecognizable in a Rankin photograph unearthed from the late 1990s.

The star sported a punk look and her short hair was slicked into spikes as she stood in front of a blue background.

She bit her thumb and looked away from the camera, dressed in a gorgeous bright orange jacket.

The image was taken for issue 46 of the British bimonthly lifestyle magazine Dazed & Confused, published in 1998.

So… do you know who it is?

A female celebrity appeared unrecognizable in an unearthed photograph of Rankin from the late 1990s. Can you guess who she is?

She’s Academy Award-winning actress and Barbie narrator Dame Helen Mirren!

The image is just one of more than 200 editorial shoots done by Rankin for his magazine that will be celebrated at the exhibition Back In the Dazed: Rankin 1991-2001, in London starting Tuesday.

Helen, 78, was recently in France, where she rubbed shoulders with other celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival.

He stayed at the stylish Martinez Hotel, which costs £1,000 a night and has its own private beach.

Helen is aging gracefully and in an interview with ELLE UNITED KINGDOM published on Tuesday, said: “We are all going to get older, there is no way around that fact.”

“When you are 20, you can’t even imagine that you will live to be seventy, but only if you are lucky, very lucky, will you be able to experience it.”

Helen said of the Festival: “It’s always wonderfully eccentric in Cannes, and I love being in the car going to the Palais… with all these people dressed to the nines, or maybe some of them barely dressed.”

Since 2022, Helen has appeared in the Paramount+ American western drama television series 1923 alongside Harrison Ford.

A new exhibition, Back in the Dazed, highlights a photographer, Rankin, and a magazine, his, Dazed & Confused, across a memorable decade.

From lauded actors to musical icons, Rankin was at the forefront of Cool Britannia and the ’90s style that remains popular today.

The visual style of Rankin, Dazed & Confused’s first photo editor, launched the magazine to notoriety and helped define the aesthetics of multiple generations of Britons.

Rankin spearheaded LGBTQIA+ representation, took his camera out to the streets to photograph working-class children, and became “the” photographer for British pop bands.

He conveyed notions of “high culture” to ordinary people and, with Dazed, gave a voice to ordinary teenagers and allowed them to access and comment on contemporary art and experimental music.

Back In The Dazed is the first UK retrospective of Rankin’s groundbreaking works during this fateful decade. More vital than ever, through Rankin’s eyes you are invited to explore the culture and creative community that was celebrated around the world.

Rankin shared: ‘Those early years were great for experimentation. For me, just starting out, it was like a blank canvas.

‘Because we were quite naively brave, we did things that ended up really changing the culture.

“It was from that moment that I learned that I love what I do and fell in love with the people around me, capturing them all on medium format film.”

Back in the Dazed is a love letter to youthful creativity, all captured by a legendary photographer and published by a seminal magazine.

On view from May 28 to June 23, 180 Studios, London. Tickets available at 180studios.com/rankin
