A McDonald’s restaurant has been forced to introduce new safety measures to protect staff from aggressive customers following a series of violent incidents.

A plexiglass security screen has been installed at the infamous 24-hour McDonald’s on King Street in Newcastle, two hours north of Sydney.

The ceiling-to-counter screen presents only a small space where food can be served, meaning staff are completely protected by the glass.

The installation of the screens comes after a series of incidents at the fast food restaurant, known for its anti-social behaviour.

In 2019, a dozen customers were involved in a violent fight inside the restaurant involving punches and severe shaking as terrified families looked on.

Photos from inside the restaurant shared on social media show dining room tables covered in spilled drinks, empty bags and soggy French fries.

The restaurant area was empty, apart from two customers who seemed to be sleeping after a rather long night or too many burgers.

Social media users were quick to comment on the safety issues at the King St Newcastle Macca’s, as well as the clientele.

“This is one of the worst Maccas I’ve ever been to. It’s fucking terrible even at midday on a Wednesday,” a fourth commented.

An Australian sharply criticized customers who left the restaurant in such disarray.

‘People today are very lazy. “It only takes a few seconds of your precious personal schedule to throw the trash in the trash,” they wrote.

“That’s embarrassing, I would love to know where these people work/live and do the same at home,” wrote another.
