A DoorDash delivery driver has shared his viral tips on how to make the most money on the platform by turning down 75 percent of orders and waiting in wealthy areas.

Over the past five years, Jay says he has refined his approach, advising his fellow drivers to only accept high-tipped rides and to wait in wealthy areas to get the highest-paying jobs.

Jay started delivering in 2019 to earn extra money while he was in school.

During the pandemic he was forced to move to Philadelphia and began working 40 hours a week at UberEats and DoorDash.

The pandemic was a “gravy train,” she told Insider: “On $250 to $300 grocery orders, people were tipping $100, because they were petrified to set foot in the store and were so grateful to that someone else was willing to do it. he.’

Since then, he reduced his hours but continued to deliver, developing a strategy to maximize profits in a short time.

His main advice to other riders is to only accept orders with the highest tip up front.

This means it rejects about 75 percent of trips where customers don’t add a tip or only offer a tip when they place an order.

He said, “I’m not really interested in playing the game of, ‘Oh, maybe I’ll deliver to this person for $2.50 guaranteed.’ Maybe it’s more.

‘I don’t play that game. And most people don’t like to play that game. That’s what it turns out to be and their order isn’t picked up, or it takes them a while to get their food.’

To get rides with the highest tips, Jay said he waits in wealthy areas.

Wages and tips also tend to be higher during the winter, he said, when there is less competition for work and clients more appreciate you braving the elements.

If done right, he told Insider, it can be lucrative: “Doing this food delivery thing, I consider it a game.” It’s like a treasure hunt, so to speak, and it amuses me.
