Scotland suffered an injury at Euro 2024 as midfielder Lewis Ferguson is ruled out of the tournament after tearing his ACL.

Scotland’s Lewis Ferguson looks set to miss Euro 2024 after Bologna confirmed the attacking midfielder has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The Bologna captain was substituted during Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Monza and will now require knee surgery.

“Devastated by the news today, but that’s life,” Ferguson wrote on Instagram.

‘I will do everything possible to come back better and stronger than before. Thanks for all the support. See you soon.’

Ferguson featured in both of Scotland’s friendlies last month and was expected to be included in the 23-man squad for the Euros.

Scotland will take part in the first match of the tournament when they take on hosts Germany.

The news will come as a blow to manager Steve Clarke, whose team will also play Hungary and Switzerland in the group stage.

Ferguson has helped Bologna to the brink of Champions League qualification with six goals and four assists in Serie A this season.

His team is in fourth place, four points ahead of fifth-placed Roma, who have a game less.
