The father of a six-year-old girl who died in a freak badminton accident has shared heartbreaking details about the day she died, including the poignant final diary entries.
Lucy Morgan died on June 5, just days after suffering a traumatic brain injury while on a family vacation in Maine.
Her pastor father, Jesse Morgan, had been documenting her battle since she was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Tragically, she escaped shortly after surrounded by her family, who gathered at her bedside to sing her favorite hymn.
Now the distraught father has revealed that he, his wife Bethany and their three other children were so overcome with grief they could not return to their own home.

Father Jesse Morgan revealed that he, his wife Bethany and their three other children were so overcome with grief that they could not return to their own home.
‘When we got home, we found flowers lining our steps and a refrigerator full of food. But getting in was the hardest,” she wrote on his blog.
“We sat on the front steps crying for a while until I finally worked up the courage to open the door.
“Again we collapsed on the kitchen floor, crying as a family louder than ever.”
The deeply religious family has been comforted by their loss through their faith, and Morgan shared that her daughter had asked her mother how to be “saved” just weeks before her death.
“Despite my conviction that she is still young and cannot possibly understand, and that she had faith like a mustard seed, Bethany still couldn’t shake the fear and doubt,” he explained.
“That’s when we opened his backpack and found the prayer journal that Bethany had given him a month ago, the day he passed away.”
The pages contain affirmations of Lucy’s faith, photographs, and a heartbreaking final drawing that her sister Shiloh believes shows Mary and Martha weeping over the body of Lazarus.
In the biblical story, Jesus resurrects Lazarus of Bethany four days after his death.
But they took comfort in their faith and that of their daughter, which was evident in the final diary entries. They believe that this image represents the resurrection of Lazarus.
Lucy had asked her mother for help to be ‘saved’ weeks before her death
The young family was enjoying an idyllic vacation by a lake in Maine when tragedy struck.
‘This last photo takes the cake. “The significance of it being the last thing she drew in the diary cannot be overstated,” Morgan said. “It’s hard to put into words how deeply I feel about it.”
But he was unwavering in his honesty about the brutality of the situation, as he described his wife’s anguish on the day Lucy died.
‘On June 4, the morning of the day Lucy was predicted to pass away, it was very difficult to distinguish the moans and cries I heard from Bethany at 3am that morning from those I heard on the morning of September 4, 2017, when Bethany gave birth to Lucy. ,’ he wrote.
“A mother’s pain in this situation is incredibly unique, heavy and, frankly, inspiring to witness.”
He described the agony of trying to explain the situation to Lucy’s three little brothers.
But also their attempts to find light in the darkness by doing some of their favorite things, including playing together.
The family was enjoying an idyllic vacation when the tragedy occurred, he explained on his blog.
“Bethany and I were relaxing in the back when we heard screaming,” he said.
Lucy was airlifted to Portland, where she suffered cardiac arrest when surgeons removed part of her skull to relieve pressure on her brain.
The four children had enjoyed a week of kayaking and outdoor activities before the accident.
“Due to a freak accident with a racket breaking when hit downwards, a sharp piece entered Lucy’s skull while she was sitting on the bench and caused a catastrophic injury.”
Lucy immediately became unresponsive and was taken to the hospital where she later died.
